Our Story Began in 1972
After a decade of experience in the animal feed industry, Don Pestell started Pestell-Agri Products in 1972. The business was truly a grass-roots entrepreneurial adventure that distributed 5 feed ingredients to Ontario feed dealers from a leased building located in New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada. A number of innovative solutions would follow, from the sale of soft wood shavings as a replacement for straw bedding to the establishment of a trucking arm that allowed delivery of finished products to U.S. customers while back-hauling feed ingredients from U.S. based suppliers.
1980's - The Construction of Our New Home
As the company grew, 7 acres of land in New Hamburg, Ontario about 100km west of Toronto were purchased in 1980 and an office and warehouse constructed on the site that would become our permanent home in the heart of Ontario’s agricultural industry.
During the 90’s
We dramatically expanded our minerals and ingredient portfolio and also entered into fertilizer micros distribution with the purchase of a nearby fertilizer blending facility that was converted into a packaging operation able to receive bulk material by rail and truck.
By the end of the decade we made a financial investment in a joint venture Copper Sulphate production facility in Ningbo, China that would be the first of several investments of its kind in both Asia and South America. We also purchased an additional facility in nearby Kirkton, Ontario to process and bag Copper Sulphate and other trace minerals which greatly accelerated our growth. By the end of the 1990’s a decision was made to rename the company Pestell Minerals & Ingredients to reflect the broadening industry reach of the customers being served.
In the Early 2000’s
We invested in a Copper Sulphate manufacturing facility in Chile in 2003 and continued to expand our product portfolio. This growth required additional capacity and in 2007 we purchased an additional 20 acres of property adjacent to the New Hamburg, Ontario operations. In 2009 we started construction on a 65,000 square foot warehouse and automated packaging facility which was completed in 2010 and featured high speed equipment to help us reliably and efficiently process the granular product arriving by rail.
2013 - Certified Safe & Reliable Products
2015 - Warehouse Expansion
We undertook the construction of an additional 65,000 square feet of packaging and warehousing facility to our New Hamburg facilities, roughly doubling our capacity. To compliment this capacity, we have also developed a network of third party warehouse locations across North America to best serve our customers.
